Our beloved Q-Town is becoming an in-demand stop for worldwide touring acts, performing at the city’s most iconic venues, such as Burt’s Tiki Lounge and the Sunshine Theatre. But those are just a few of the many wonderful venues here. In order to fully appreciate Albuquerque sonically, you have to be creative in your efforts. Here are some of our favorite spots!

Source-Connect Now is a similar product, but it’s free! If you have the budget, however, I recommend ipDTL because it has greater mixing capabilities and is more common in the industry, making it easier to work with other companies and voice talent. That being said, when just beginning, Source-Connect Now can certainly get the job done. Both services offer a private link to send to your guests and allow you to have more than one guest in different locations. It’s just like connecting via Skype, but at a much better quality. As long as you both have a solid internet connection and suitable recording environments, your interview will sound great. You didn’t even have to leave your bedroom!

Our friends over at Bandzoogle had similar fears and a wholly constructive epiphany as to how they could use their platform to both fill the crowdfunding void that PledgeMusic left behind and learn from their tragic mistakes in the process. Bandzoogle has created a new preset page template that automatically populates websites with specific tools for musicians to run a crowdfunding campaign without taking any commissions on sales, or even inserting themselves into the payment transaction chain at all.

I’d like to see if you have [dates] available for a show I’m putting together. I’ve reached out to [band 1], [band 2], and [band 3] to headline, and I can lock at least one of them down once we have the venue and date confirmed. I’ve included links to all of the artists’ music and their bios below.

You don’t have to be a strict minimalist when it comes to gear. If you’re keeping something just because you like it, that’s no problem! At least you have a connection to it!

Jake’s tone, phrasing, and ability to build tension and land it so elegantly took this track much farther than I thought it would go. His opening phrase at 0:43, laid way back on the end of the beat and contrasting beautifully against the frantically paced drums, is such an incredible statement. And Jake’s solo gave me so many additional ideas, like using some additional harmony to frame what he was playing and chopping up some of his phrases to set up the new section — directions I wouldn’t have pursued had I not reached out to him to collaborate.

Now for a bit of push-back on the general tone so far. We (and the panelists in the video) have mentioned how technology can create some dangerous grey areas when it comes to education — such as removing the vital social aspects of learning and of music practice in general, and also subjecting education to frameworks often designed by non-musicians or engineers lacking a diversity of musical knowledge, awareness, and respect (and thus unable to build tools that allow for all modes of musical expression).
